Electrode, Diglett, Nidoran, Mankey. Venusaur, Rattata, Fearow, Pidgey. Seaking, Jolteon, Dragonite, Gastly. Ponyta, Vaporeon, Poliwrath, Butterfree. Catch ’em, catch ’em, gotta catch ’em all, Pokémon.
If you grew up in the ’90s, these lyrics are likely etched into the deepest, darkest part of your brain. Part of the infamous Pokerap, which aired at the end of every episode of the Pokemon anime, this string of Pokemon was regularly uttered in every playground across the land.
Clearly a ’90s kid themselves, one Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket player has decided to immortalize the Pokerap in the form of some of the game’s binders.
The Pokerap Has Been Immortalized In Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket
This impressive piece of work was shared by Reddit user ByTheRings, who collected a Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket card of each of the original 150 Pokemon.
Rather than being content that they’d achieved the feat and thus received the special Mew card for doing so, ByTheRings set to work organizing the cards, in order of the Pokerap, into the game’s binders.
With each binder allowing a maximum of 30 cards, way short of the 150 slots needed, ByTheRings decided to split their cards into multiple binders, one for each verse of the rap, and it looks great.
The binder is punctuated by a Professor Oak supporter card, which we choose to believe is the one canonically performing the actual rap.
It’s another show of creativity from the Pokemon Trading Card Game Community, which is finding clever ways to maximize their Daily Shop tickets and avoid battling the same decks time and time again, but it’s not quite at the same level as the game’s developers or artists.
While many of the cards have pretty artwork, some focus more on inventiveness and imagination. The Snorlax card depicts a scene from Pokemon Red and Blue, the Eevee illustration rare shows the Pokemon making a tough decision, and the Ditto card is like a miniature game of Where’s Waldo.
