For the last decade, there have been plenty of discussions and attempts to make a live-action adaptation based on The Last of Us. Sam Raimi was set to produce a film adaptation at one point, but the project has since entered development hell. Even an animated film was in the works at some point but was canceled. But, after many years and attempts, The Last of Us TV series was officially greenlit in 2020, with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin set to write, produce, and act as the Showrunner for the project, along with Niel Druckmann, the original writer and director of The Last of Us.
