Baldur’s Gate 3’s modding scene is absolutely huge, ranging from the smallest of abilities or perks, to large-scale projects. It’s quite possibly the only game in which one modder can work on a full-scale campaign with voice acting, while another works on giving Withers big naturals.
A few modders have their eyes set on more than just Withers and his massive chest though, as several people set out to create full-blown custom campaigns. This was after discovering that developer Larian Studios had made very little effort (some think deliberately so) to hide more in-depth tools that allowed players to alter Baldur’s Gate 3’s larger components, such as characters and environments, in its recently released modding toolkit.

We’re gonna be talking about this game for a decade and more.
Thanks to this, we’ve already seen incredibly impressive creations, such as the recreation of Waukeen’s Promenade from Baldur’s Gate 2. Now that modders are gradually getting more and more familiar with the tools that Larian used to make Baldur’s Gate 3, one such individual believes that 2025 may be the year we finally start to see full-scale campaigns start to drop.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Modder Thinks Custom Campaigns Will Start Releasing This Year
Speaking with PC Gamer, a modder called Brandon Giles (aka SquallyDaBeanz) has claimed that modders behind these big projects have made “huge strides” recently, overcoming the complexities of the tools despite having no tutorials or documentation of their usage. Baldur’s Gate 3’s modding community is a collaborative sort though, and by working together, Giles thinks that they’re now in a position that we may see custom campaigns released to the public sooner rather than later.
“Most of the systems are already here, so I think we’ll see many of them refined, improved, and released this year,” says Giles. “Once these tools are more wide-spread, I think we’ll see new levels and lands comparable to the Skyrim modding community!”
Giles also explains more about how work is going at the minute, claiming that modders are now starting to figure out how to create “entirely new companion characters”, and making a lot of progress in “custom cutscenes and dialogue too”. It sounds as though modders are getting a good idea about how to put their own games together. If modders can get over the finishing line, we may finally see Baldur’s Gate 3 become, quite literally, a never-ending game.
